Since 2007 Niamh has been a full-time lecturer in the School of Law, Queen's Univeristy Belfast.
Her main research interests lie in the areas of legal history, juries, criminal justice and criminal procedure. She is the joint secretary of the Irish Legal History Society [www.ilhs.eu] and welcomes enquires from anyone interested in membership.
Niamh's PhD (University College Dublin) examined the composition and operation of nineteenth-century Irish trial juries.
Recent publications include 'Merchants and Esquires', in O'Kane and Sullivan, Georgian Dublin (Four Courts Press) and 'Controlling Jury Composition' [2009 Journal of Legal History].
Forthcoming publications include 'The Terror of their Lives: Irish Jurors Experiences' [2011 Law and History Review], Fenians and Jury Trials, 1865-69 [2011 Irish Jurist] and 'English and Irish Juries' in Brown and Donlan, Law in Ireland 1688-1850 (Ashgate).
Niamh's current work focuses on juries throughout theĀ British Empire in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
As well as the history of jury trials, she is also currently examining the citizenship requirement for contemporary Irish juries.
