About
My research is concerned with the content of social representations of Irish neutrality and how use and related functions of these representations have changed since Irish independence. It also investigates which belief systems (e.g. conservatism, religiosity etc) and which individual difference variables these social representations are anchored to. It also examines the relationship between social representations of neutrality and constructions of Irish national and religious identities, and how people negotiate adherence to the principle of neutrality in the face of perceived violation of other social values and moral principles. This research utilises mixed-methods - survey based, qualitative and experimental methodologies, to fulfil these aims.
